Library

The Jansen Newman Institute has an excellent library of materials while studying for a counselling or psychotherapy course.

Jansen Newman Institute Library

As a student at JNI, you have access to the library Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm (or later if arranged through reception).

The Librarian, Bernice Russell, is available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (library currently closed on weekends). Outside of these hours, please have your books checked by reception.

Email: brussell@think.edu.au to book database classes, book holds, loan extensions, or general enquiries.

JNI Catalogue

The library's online catalogue is available at: http://bonza.unilinc.edu.au/jni.

Other libraries

Most university libraries are open to the public, have excellent collections and may be closer to you than the JNI library. As a JNI student, you're encouraged to visit other university libraries to reference and photocopy materials. Some university libraries also allow JNI students to join as a borrower, although a fee may be charged. Check with specific libraries for details.

The homepages and online catalogues of the State Library of NSW and some university libraries can be found at:

Borrowing from the Library

The library works on an honour system. It's a small, but highly-specialised collection that's continually being updated.

Main Collection

You can borrow five books at a time for two weeks.

Short Loan Collection

Books that are in high demand are placed in the short loan collection. A "red label" on the spine of the books can identify these books. These can be borrowed for one week only.

Reference Collection

These books are NOT FOR LOAN , but can be consulted in the library and pages photocopied.

Videos and Audiocassettes

These items are often irreplaceable and are for IN-HOUSE USE ONLY . If you wish to listen to/view any of these items please ask at the Reception Desk and they will supply you with the appropriate facilities.

Journals and Resource Folders

These are not for loan, but articles may be photocopied. There is a charge of 10c per page.

Inter-Library Loans

The library has reciprocal borrowing arrangements with the Unilinc Member libraries. If a book is not held at the JNI library but is available at one of these libraries it can be requested. It takes approximately a week for ordered books to arrive.

In order to maintain good relations with other Unilinc libraries the following restrictions are in place:

  • Borrowers are limited to making 5 inter-library loans per semester
  • We cannot order an inter-library loan on items held by JNI, even if our copy is on loan

Renewal

To renew a loan, please the librarian can be contacte on or before the due date by phone or email (02) 9436 3055 / library@jni.nsw.edu.au Loan periods on book/s cannot be extended if previously requested by another student.

Holding Library Materials

If a book is out on loan, a hold request can be placed on that book. The borrower will be notified.

Overdue notices

Overdue notices are sent to borrowers who have overdue books.

Fines

The library may levy fines if a borrower is either persistently late in returning book/s, or allows book/s to become very overdue.

Suspensions

Borrowers who have book/s long overdue mayhave their borrowing privileges suspended until all overdue items are returned and fines are paid.

Replacement

In the case of loss, borrowers are responsible for purchasing replacement items.

Donations

Book donations are gratefully received. Please contact the Librarian.
